Why am I just hearing about this now and why didn't I think of this? It's a wireless reading device, basically you can download any book, magazine or newspaper article or BLOG entry (ahem). There are thousands of books available to download, in multiple languages. Think of it like this, you may never have to dust a bookcase again. It will even read the books aloud to you, another reason to ditch the idiot box! That means no more booty clapping videos or trashy dating shows. I knew someone was watching out for me.

This is fucking lame. This show chronicles a day in the life of a matchmaker whose purpose is to link up potential trophy wife wannabes with lonely ex-computer geek millionaires.

Come on guys, I know it can be lonely at the top. But do you really need to invest so much time and money on hiring a woman to help you find someone whose sole purpose is to spend your hard earned money, and massage your bruised egos??

Really, this show makes me gag. Aren't women tired of assuming codependent and subordinate roles?? Guess not. It's sad to see that while some women work hard to achieve equal standing, there remain the select few whose ultimate ambition is to meet a man to take care of them. It's so sickening to see people twist what should be a meaningful bond between two individuals into a social/financial ladder. Furthermore there is nothing enticing about watching the life of a 30-something year old professional busy-body.

Say what you want, defend the show as you may.

I'm kind of early but who knows what I will be getting into this evening, so Happy New Year from me, and I hope that everyone has had a great year, and is ready to accomplish what they need to in 2009.
This year has had its good and bad for me personally, tragedy struck in my family and we lost someone very dear to us, who we all love and miss. But there are times that we have to take the good with the bad, and cherish the ones who remain close to us. Along with this severe loss, I have had a few gains. I have had the pleasure of meeting new people and new loved ones that I will keep close to me, and I know that I will remain close to in years to come.
I have also come close to closing a chapter in my life, and have had the chance to develop creatively. 2009 has alot in store for me and I know that there are many life lessons and experiences to come. In regards to that, I am not just speaking for myself.
So, with that have fun and be safe, and be ready to commit to your new years resolutions, I know you all have them, self included.

I would love to thank Anonymous to take the time out of their important, good samaritan life to read my blog from start to finish. It's really flattering to know that someone has so much interest in what I have to say. Especially someone of such high moral character. Since Anonymous is such an avid reader of my blog, and can describe my appearance down to a T, I feel the need to shine some light and give them the attention he or she so craves.
This is what Anonymous had to say about yours truly, I was pleasantly greeted by this in my inbox today:

Anonymous clearly has a high level of disdain for me, and chooses not to reveal their identity which is fine. However, one would figure that someone who has so much to say would at least make the attempt to make themselves known. My physical appearance and and obnoxious writing style repulses Anonymous so much that they have read most of my blog entries (blog tracker, thank you) and stopped to look at all of the pictures that I have posted. Not only that.....but Anonymous also takes time out of their busy schedule of course to write multi-paragraph hateful comments about me on three occasions. He or she wasn't happy with their first comment that they left for approval, so they spruced it up and added a few nasty insulting remarks, and submitted the second, and then the third. Mind you this is someone who has no extra time on their hands whatsoever, and absolutely no interest in what I have to say.
You're right Anonymous, situations like this do amuse me. Its funny how one can have so much contempt for a person that they read their blog and attack their character without making themselves known. And just a question, who are all of these people that I sit around dogging in my blog? Last time I checked, I write about people whose work I admire and those close to me such as family and friends. At first I thought that you were someone I knew that was voicing their hatred for me behind an anonymous identity, but I honestly don't think I know anyone that pitiful. Clearly you are just a pathetic loser who has nothing better to do, and uses the spare time of your tired and uneventful life to insult and attempt to belittle others. In the meantime you cower behind an anonymous identity. From the way you write I can tell that you have a good vocabulary and are quite capable of expressing yourself, maybe you should make good use of that skill and your time, instead of brewing up anonymous hate mail.

Sure it sounds mean and awful and all of those things. I won't contest that. But it's true.
I call people's kids ugly.
I was actually having a conversation about this yesterday, when my cousin was looking at pictures of someone's kid on myspace. (we will touch on my views on myspace another day)
So low and behold I said the kid was ugly and my cousin nearly fell off the bed. Don't ask me why, as this is something that I do quite often. As a side note, I don't know why but I just have a problem with people plastering pictures of their kids all over myspace. It just seems wrong. I understand most people love their kids, and that's fine, but seriously do we really need to see your ultrasounds? I know I, personally have zero interest in that. I just have a problem with people who post pictures of their backsides and cleavage alongside pictures of their kids. So sorry.
Anyways, this is my question.
Is it not just as mean to go around calling grown folks ugly? Sad as it sounds I know very few people who have not called someone ugly in their lifetime, but just because I say it about someone who happens to be a little younger that makes me worse than anyone else? Or maybe I should wait until their 18th birthday and then say it. Ok I get it, calling people ugly is a rotten thing to do, but only if they're under a certain age?
Doesn't make sense.
I mean at least a child can get cuter with age, can you say the same for adults who you have called ugly?

So yes I do realize that calling people ugly is not nice.

Now even though I don't know this girl personally, I must say she seems cool. I did once see her at Dr. Jay's, but I just can't acknowledge celebrities (wait is she a celebrity?!, for our purposes we will say no, Celebrity is such a nasty little label). It's funny cuz it was the day after I watched her Super Sweet Sixteen, prior to that I hadn't even heard of her. Now I'm not one to really give a shit about celebrities (besides Prince) but this girl seems really ahead of her time, and that's really impressive for someone so young.

She's pretty much a jack of all trades, an entertainer and she's even entered the realm of fashion which is cool cuz her style is pretty unique. I've read her blog and she's into preserving the culture in Harlem, and she's really into the advancement of young people which is pretty admirable. Hey, when you're in the public eye it's pretty easy to get lost in yourself, especially being someone so young.

So, I hope to see more of her in the future cuz I think she has alot of potential. It's good to see people with substance in the limelight.

Lastly, the girl has beautiful hair, and coming from a hair snob like me, that means alot. Who doesn't love hair??

1. My school has recently been renovated and suddenly all of these purell hand sanitizer dispensers keep popping up. These make me terribly uncomfortable and I refuse to touch them because I have convinced myself that all the nasties who are too lazy to was their hands after sneezing/coughing/blowing theirnoses/using the facilities have touched them.

2. This one's really weird, and I actually am kind of embarassed to admit this. Sometimes I get the urge to trip people when they walk by, or throw things at their heads, and I don't know why because that's something that I would never do in real life. After having one of these urges I feel really bad and get very anxious that one day i will act on them.

3. This one is funny. When I was little I used to always sleep with my new stuffed animals and dolls. Pretty normal for a kid right? What's not so normal is that I would have to get up multiple times during the night and grab my other stuffed animals and dolls because I didn't want them to feel left out or get sad/mad that the new toys got to sleep with me. So before you knew it I would have like 20 toys sleeping with me on the bed.

Now that you know that I'm crazy i think you should also know that I also thought that the Gerber baby was me.
I know I'm weird, but if I wasn't what on earth would you have to read about?

My blackberry is acting weird and it's really pissing me off.
Besides that I'm in the process of designing a dress that's putting me through hell.
For those of you who will ever be interested in creating a dress, pleats are definately not fun, as pretty as they may be, and if I prick myself with one more pin I swear I will rip someone's head off.
This post is pretty much an anxious rant, it's been a long week and I need to let off some steam , so here goes.
As silly as this sounds I feel like I am wasting my life, even though I know I am not. I have been in school for SOOOOOOOOOOOO long and I just freaking want to be done.
I only have one semester left but that feels like forever.
I'm really honestly quite tired of living in Rhode Island, and I feel like such an ass for saying that. My whole family is here and most of my friends, but really I feel like I'm not living up to my full potential here. Then on the other hand I feel really really extremely guilty for leaving, I don't wanna leave anyone I love behind. Ugghhhhhh....
On a happier note, my fall semester is just about done and even though I was a complete slacker I feel like I did well. At this point I just want my degree, so I can get this college monkey off my back and experience new places and new things.

Yesterday I made a complete fool out of myself by driving all the way to Framingham MA to look for fabric to find out that the Fabric Place went out of business. So to make myself feel better I stopped at the outlets on my way home. I was a bad girl of course and blew my money on Burberry and Marc jacobs. I always rationalize blowing my money on designer stuff by telling myself I deserve it, which I find amusing.
Besides that I have the night off and no plans, and i kinda want to make an impromptu trip to nyc, but I have to practice some self control.

So I've been pretty good with keeping up my blog postings these days. Am I Right?

Thing is, I think my blog needs a makeover, I thrive on change so it would be appropriate.

I swear to you that something weird always happens to me on my way to class, never fails!! Last night I'm walking to the URI building in downtown Providence when I see this drunk man actin' a fool. I'm debating to myself whether I should walk past him or change paths in order to avoid him. But no, something in my mind tells me don't be ignorant Crystal, just walk by the man and ignore him, he's probably harmless. HARMLESS MY ASS! So as I'm walking by this fool I hear:

"Psst....Dancer! Dancer!"

"Excuse me?" I turn around and say, now wanting to kick myself for not turning in the opposite direction which is what I should have done. So I look around to see what this drunken fool is talking about and I relaize that I'm standing right in front of The Sportman's Inn, which is a low budget gentleman's club.

So by this time the drunk/crazy man says, " Aren't you a dancer? Are you going in there?"

"NO!" I say, "Have you lost your mind?! Do I look like a damn stripper to you?!" By this time I am highly annoyed and about two seconds away from kicking this man's balls in, but i just roll my eyes and keep walking.

The fool is clearly embarassed by his lack of decency, manners and common sense that he continues to follow me.."Haha..I'm so sorry miss, I didn't mean to offend you. What was I thinking? I should have known a pretty girl like you couldn't be no dancer. Can I apologize??''

"You most certainly can...!" I say as I keep walking, by this time I'm about twenty feet ahead of this lowlife and still hear him tripping and stumbling over his words in the background, in a desperate attempt at taking his foot out of his mouth.

DAMN!!!!! Can I go one day in downtown providence without some loser coming along and f-ing my day up?? See what happens when you try not to judge a book by its cover?! You get harassed, and accused of being a stripper at that! Last time I checked nothing in my closet even resembled anything that some tacky stripper would wear, nevermind one from crusty little providence. Do yourself a favor ladies, next time you are walking alone and some raggedy looking fool is coming your way PLEASE walk in the opposite direction!

I almost got hit by a car today and the girl walking next to me did actually get hit...good thing she managed to fall forward. Not only was she freaked out she was so embarassed, poor girl. Yesterday was my first day back at school and as nerdy and geeky as this sounds I'm siked to be back. This semester is gonna be a toughie, 18 credits and a 4 shift workweek. I am confident in my abilities so I know that it's nothing I can't handle. What's different about this semester is that I will be taking mostly elective courses because I am pretty much done with my core classes. Most of my electives are sociology or psychology based...so interesting. I honestly think studying peoples roles in society and their behaviors is another passion of mine, which brings me to the point of this post.

Can anyone understand me when I say that I absolutely hate when people ask me what my major is??? Sounds crazy but there's a method to my madness. See it's not the fact that people are interested in what I'm studying, it's just the fact that I feel misunderstood like people have preconceived notions of me because I study "fashion". I know it's cliche to say that I don't care what people think of me because everyone does to some extent. I will say this, there always seems to be some sort of stigma attached to people who are in the whole fashion world. While many of us are very creative minded individuals with an appreciation for life, the arts and culture, people often mistake people in the industry for being uppity, self righteous, and shallow. While these people do exist, I will say that most of us are dedicated and hard working individulas who are devoted to our craft. We see fashion as a mode of self expression and a creative outlet. There is so much about a person that can be conveyed through their sense of style and so much emotion and attitude behind it. Most important, we are dedicated and passionate about what we do. I can't tell you how much it makes me want to rip my hair from my scalp when I see girls (or anyone for that matter) who decide to join the program at my school because they either want an easy way through college, or think that just because they like to shop and look trendy/hot/pretty that fashion is the field or them. Newsflash: in order to be successful in anything in life it takes hard work, talent and dedication.....it's lazy people like this that give us a bad rap.

Another thing...why is it that when teachers push their students and have high expectations of them, they get attacked? I have been in countless instances where I have been warned not to take certain classes because of the professor actually doing their job. I find this especially true with black professors. Every black professor that has ever challenged me has always been the target of attack. Why are minority professors who take pride in what they do always villainized? I suppose they would be more popular if they stood at the front of the class doing stand up comedy, eating watermelon and drinking Kool Aid. I mean after all, isn't that what black folks are supposed to do? Isn't it our role in society to play the fool and confirm every negative and ludacris sterotype seen in the media? Sure seems like it.

Today I was reading a review of one of my professors online. One idiot had the gall to comment "If you are an attractive white female, stay away!" Yea, ok. I'm pretty sure the reason that the professor failed you was because she was jealous of your so called good looks, and had nothing at all to do with the fact that you are probably a stuck up, narrow minded, lazy, and self righteous twit. I bet you're thinking that your parents hard earned tuition money is probably being spent on Air Jordans, 40 ounces, and Newport cigarettes. I mean naturally she owes it to you to pass your dumb ass right? I'm sure that a forty something year old professor with a PhD, long list of accomplishments, and a fully established career is jealous of you and your negative, pretentious attitude. Get a grip you moronic idiot. I know that this post makes me seem like the angry minority here but seriously, stuff like this goes right up my ass. There are still some people in the world who actually take their professions seriously and know better then to hand out good grades which could ultimately lead to the advancement of undeserving and incompetent people. Look at what happened with Bush! Let's learn from our mistakes people and stop blaming our shortcomings on people whose job it is to help us succeed.

A good chunk of my summer has been devoted to watching Bravo, not sure if that's a good thing but it sure is hell of a lot more constructive than watching I Love Money. I'll watch pretty much anything that comes on this channel with the exception of Shear Genius. I guess a hairstyling match just doesn't grab my attention. So long as people are not degrading themselves and making a public display of their lack of home training, I'll give it a shot.

A few of my favorites were Top Chef, and Flipping Out, but sadly they had to come to an end so now I have my two guilty pleasures, Project Runway and Date My Ex (as dramatic as it may be) to indulge in....speaking of which I really miss Workout!

My love for design was rekindled after a long summer and I was re-inspired by two amazing designs on Project Runway. It sure is making my patternmaking class this semester that much more appealing : ) Check em out!

Both of these designs were made of car parts, the kimono jacket is made of woven seatbelts and the black mini dress was made out of a car seat, this is what you call pure talent friends...something that I forget even exists these days.

And if you're not familiar with Date My Ex here's a clip....I don't care what anyone says we all need our weekly dosage of reality TV...after coming home from a long shift of mayhem, it feels good to be entertained for a little while.

I hope Jo and Slade get back together...maybe because I have a high level of loyalty and don't believe that one can really find love on a reality dating show, but hey that's just me. While we are on the subject isn't her friend Myia the cutest?

Love the blunt bangs, huge fan. Not everyone can pull them off so she gets extra style points.

While we are on the topic of hair...What is up with dude's hair from Million Dollar Listing? Call me a cynic but I just can't take a grown man rocking an overpriced bowl cut seriously...I don't care how many six figure homes he's sold...Not a good look!

It's bittersweet that my summer of boredom has come to an end, I'll barely have any time to watch Bravo, but I will get to watch my savings grow as I'm working and in school full time, and my classes will have my creative juices flowing again. Savings+Creativity= Recipe for Success in NYC : )

I was reading The Cool Hunter newsletter today and they featured an artist Gary Fernandez. I fell in love. His work is so unique and completely up my alley. It's crazy how one person's work can fit your taste exactly. Fernandez is a graphic artist and freelance illustrator from Madrid. I was kind of surprised that he was born in 1980, his work is so elaborate and detailed it seems as though it belongs to someone who took decades to perfect their craft. Most of his work includes black and white drawings with splashes of color here and there, and contains so much detail. I really love how everything is so feminine and exotic looking..not to mention his hand writing is insane. If I ever make it big and develop my own company or product line I would love for him to create my logo, that may be a tough one considering he's done work for Coke and Camel cigarettes : (

I was so impressed with Miss Sixty's spring collection that I had to take a peak at their fall/winter collection. While I was browsing the website, I noticed the link Sixty Hotel. Yep you guessed it, The Sixty Group has opened its first hotel in Riccione Italy. Not only is it a 4 star hotel, it's a creative collaboration of 30 emerging artists. This is officially my dream hotel, it's the ultimate mix of fashion, contemporary art, and interior design. In addition to the hotel being amazing, there is even a Miss Sixty store connected to it. It took a pure creative genius to pull this concept off...

Now normally I'm not a big boot person but I have to admit these brown suede embroidered boots have kinda grown on me...I'm a big fan of over the knee boots, they really make a statement when done right....If you're gonna wear them know what you're doing! Goka Design has been invited to Participate in this year's fashion week in NYC. To help raise funds for the event, Goka is hostessing a major event which will take place at Aspire restaurant at Hotel Providence, in downtown Providence, Rhode Island on August 17th from 3-7pm.

The event will be catered and there will be a live DJ, as well as raffles every half hour and a small fashion show. Several items from the collection will be auctioned off as well. You will have a chance to meet my friend Alessandra Gold who designed the collection and owns and operates Goka Design.

Wow. This is funny on so many levels. I'm really ALL SET with myspace. It has officially become a breeding ground for insanity. Apparently someone on my friends list (which is comprised of about 300 people that I really don't know and have never even spoken to....nor do i care to)has a distressed baby's mother (hate that term, but I have to use it where it applies) who broke into his account and put that up as his status....WOW. Now Ive seen my share of crazy myspace antics, but this is one of the few that takes the cake...We all know there's nothing worse than a deranged, childish baby mama in distress...

Really ladies??? Come on.....putting your business on myspace for the world to see is 1. NOT cool, and 2. Isn't gonna make your relationship any better...save your pride cuz that's all your gonna have left in the end.

Lessons Learned x Loved Ones

So, Its been a rough couple of days for me, but god works in mysterious ways. It's times like these that I have to take the valuable lessons that Ive learned into account. The biggest lesson that I have learned is that when opportunity presents itself, you have to take advantage of it regardless of your fears, and what you will have to sacrifice. I have also learned that everything happens for a reason and that everyone that you meet comes into your life to teach you something regardless of whether you know them for a minute, or for a lifetime. It's hard when feelings get involved but in the end those who really care for you will stand by you, and will be a part of your life regardless. You just can't let opportunity pass you by because then you will live your life in regret.
With that being said, I am completely grateful for the people who surround me every day, because they keep me strong and grounded. I am happy to have them in my life and they are happy to have me in theirs, and that's a powerful thing. Its amazing to think that even when you are at your weakest, there is someone who gains strength from you. I was honored to read my friend Rachel's blog, who said that I was an inspiration to her. Rachel and I have the same sarcastic attitude when it comes to the general public and our outlook on life is very similar. It just goes to show that you can mean alot to someone and inspire them to do great things by simply just offering your friendship and being yourself around them. It's people like her that make everyday life fun and priceless.

SO bear with me and pray for me lol...im almost done with school so its pretty much getting down to the wire these days and its especially hard trying to keep my finances in check but I have strength, Not to mention Im not getting any younger!!! Time to stay focused.......

I've been a bad blogger lately so I'm gonna post this video while I'm at it. As much as I'm embarassed to admit this I kinda am feeling this song...It always comes on the tv screen at Kartabar and I secretly jam to it....

Why do I have a feeling that the "Indian" girl in this video is really spanish.... What's the rate for Indian video girls these days anyway? As for the singer of this song, don't worry, your five minutes of fame will be up shortly, but this will still be my song so it's all good

At the beach with Kendra....

Today I finally got to go to the beach with my girl Kendra...I've been siked about this all week..now its over : (
....but it was a relaxing day so I won't complain about having to go back to work tommorrow, I had fun even though I got hit in the head with a frisbee, I received an apology, so it was all good.

When we got there we ate and enjoyed a few drinks, this one came in a shark glass, so cute:

After my little injury I decided to sit down and take pictures of some poor unsuspecting beach go-ers, if they only knew the whole world is looking at them in their bathing suits...sorry guys!
